Use Gmail Filters to declutter your inbox

A lot of people use filters as a way to search through emails they’ve already received.

But they can help you a lot more than that. It’s basically a way to scan your email messages before they hit your inbox, and take whatever action you tell them to.

For instance:

  • Emails to do with a specific project can be put into a special folder that you will look at when you are ready for that task
  • You can automatically forward emails that you just forward along to someone else if they are about a certain topic
  • Emails from a specific person, or domain, or about a certain subject, can be flagged so that you will see them immediately
